AND THE STORY IS TOLD...
Growing up on the Southside of Chicago (The Wild Hundreds) in a single parent home D’mond used basketball and music as a way of freeing his mind from the drama of the streets. Idolizing his older cousins, at the age of eleven D’mond began writing rhymes to compete with them. Often times he imitated Old School artists such as N.W.A., KRS-1, Rakim, LL Cool J and a host of others. But never once did he think that this might someday become his career.
As time moved on D’mond attended Morgan Park High School, where basketball became his first love. It wasn’t until teaming up with an M.C. by the name of “Dirty Cloud of Smoke”, Abraka Boyd, that D’mond’s passion for the lyrics was reborn. After forming the group X-Files as well as the group Village of the Dammed, D’mond believed he could actually make it in the music industry. Unfortunately the groups broke up. Abraka proceeded on to college while D’mond chose to get a job to help his mother with the bills.
After the break up of the groups D’mond resurfaced again when he teamed up with a group of artists called “CrewLove”. Through CrewLove D’mond discovered the knowledge of self. Although he is not Muslim, the knowledge of their world helped his mind and his heart to a new existence allowing him to broadening his rhyming ability. The change was more than lyrically – it was mentally.
CrewLove his involved themselves in a number of ventures from performing at local showcases such as Biddy Mulligans, Olive Harvey, Trinity College Gentle Persuasions, and the Annual Washington Park Festival to the Blind Pig of Champaign, Illinois. D’mond knows that it will only be a matter of time before opportunity appears behind an unknown door. In the mean time he’s trying to pry it open…
